Our Story · Argos Materials

From Heritage to Innovation.
Building the Future of U.S. Aggregates.

What began in 1934 as a building materials company has grown into a trusted name across the Southeastern United States. This is the story of how we got here — and where we’re going next.

90 Years of Building Materials Leadership

1934
Foundation
Cementos Argos S.A. is founded in Colombia by local businessmen as a family business. The company grows from a single local cement producer into one of Latin America's most respected building materials companies.
1960s
First U.S. Presence
Argos begins cement exports to the United States, marking the company's first commercial relationship with the U.S. construction market.
2005–2016
U.S. Expansion
Argos consolidates a vertically integrated platform in the U.S. through significant M&A activity — acquiring RMX and cement assets across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, including terminals and distribution networks. At peak, the U.S. platform included 9.6M tpa cement capacity, 4.5M tpa import capacity, and 200 ready-mix concrete plants. Argos became one of the top 10 cement producers in the United States.
2024
Combination with Summit Materials
Argos combined its U.S. cement and concrete operations with Summit Materials in a landmark transaction, creating significant value for shareholders.
2025
Successful Monetization
Following Quikrete's acquisition of Summit Materials, Argos successfully monetized its stake — generating approximately $2.9 billion in cash and delivering a 4.7x return on invested equity.
2025–Today
A New Chapter: Argos Materials
Argos Materials LLC is established as the new U.S. platform for Cementos Argos. Led by CEO Jason Teter — with nearly two decades of experience at Vulcan Materials and Lafarge USA — the company is building a premier aggregates import operation connected to strategic terminals across the Gulf Coast and Southeastern United States.

Same Name. Same Values. New Chapter.

If you're wondering why Argos is back in the U.S. market — we never really left. Following the conclusion of our non-compete period after Quikrete's acquisition of Summit Materials, Argos Materials LLC is now re-entering with a focused aggregates strategy. The relationships, the reputation, and the commitment to quality you knew from Argos are exactly what we're building on.
